Relatively little repertoire has been written for the captivating combination of solo voice, cello and piano. Yet, as cellist Steven Isserlis observes, the cello mirrors the human voice in its warmth and intimacy, becoming almost an extension of the body. Mezzo-soprano Aukse Trinkunas, cellist Gerrit Koorsen and pianist Eugene Joubert present a programme that celebrates this unique tonal blend. Featuring Manuel de Falla’s Siete canciones populares españolas, selected Romances by Sergei Rachmaninoff, and works by Astor Piazzolla including Oblivion and Libertango, the concert journeys from Spanish folk passion to Russian lyricism and Argentine nuevo tango, uniting diverse cultures through melody and emotion.
